How To Spend A Day In London

Saturday, 7 January 2017

One of the things I really missed last year was not going on a summer holiday. I was very lucky to be taken to Amsterdam by Josh in February (Read Post here), and I interned in Paris for a week in July as part of one of my internships. But it feels like forever since I had a proper holiday, with plans to go away a couple of times this year hopefully you'll be seeing more travel content! But to kick things off, I've got a little travel post of sorts.. How to spend a day in London.

Art Galleries
I'm a huge art geek at heart, so when I heard about the Caravaggio exhibition at the National Gallery I knew I had to go. So my family, Josh and I headed to London for the day. We set off at 7:30am and got into London and parked up for about 10am. My Mum and I jumped on the tube to Trafalgar Square and headed to the Gallery whilst my step dad, brother and boyfriend went off to explore the tower of London for the morning. Trafalgar square is so lovely, and there is so much to do in that area. At 11am we headed into the gallery to see the exhibition. Unfortunately you couldn't take photos in their but it was so lovely to see his work and other artists that were inspired by him. After wandering round the exhibition we headed over to Pret for some lunch.

The next stop on our agenda was to visit Selfridges, I needed to pick up a special someones birthday present so we made our way over. We used the City Mapper app, if you're not familiar with it then I strongly suggest you download it. It's free and it's the best thing in the world if you're trying to find your way around an unfamiliar city. Let me briefly explain how it works. It detects your location and you type in where you want to go. It then calculates the options for you, so it will tell you how long and how expensive it will take you to walk, drive, cycle then public transport options such as the bus and tube. Then with the tube it will tell you what lines you need to get on, where to change platform etc etc. Honestly it's such a godsend.

Buckingham Palace
After our trip to Selfridges we jumped on the tube to see Buckingham Palace. I've probably been to london 5/6 times in my life and never have I visited Buckingham Palace, so it was really lovely to walk across Green Park and stand at the gates.

Next we headed to the shard to meet up with the boys, (who had a wonderful time at the Tower Of London). We then headed to Liberty's which was really lovely, it was so nice to wander round and lust over all the lovely things. Then we wandered around Carnaby Street which was also lovely. After we were all shopped out we went on the hunt for something to eat, so we tucked into some delicious Pizza and Pasta at Bella Italia before heading home.

I'd absolutely love to head back to London whether it's just for the day or a weekend. So hopefully it won't be long before I'm back.
