Surprising Wardrobe Essentials

Wednesday, 5 October 2016

I’ve seen the post wardrobe essentials floating around the blogersphere for a while now, hey even I’ve done a couple of takes on it (Wardrobe Essentials and Items to make your wardrobe more professional)  But for this post I thought I’d talk you through a couple of pieces that you might not think to include in your wardrobe. These are pieces that I never thought I’d use that often but I’m getting so much wear out of..

Jeans with a Twist
Choose your favourite style of jeans and look around for some in that style but with a bit of a detailing or something a little more funky about them. For me it’s these gorgeous embroidered jeans from Pretty Little Thing. I’ve worn them so much and I’m forever getting compliments on them! But if you’re not digging the whole embroidered jeans thing then I saw these jeans on Topshop that I’m eyeing up. Or perhaps some jeans with a more trend-led cut. Like some Kick Flares?

Coloured Jacket
For me it’s a lovely Khaki longline jacket. Thats as colourful as it’s gonna get with me. But I’d love to be one of those gals that can rock a bright red coat. When I was interning at Temperley, I met this lovely girl who wore a yellow leather jacket; normally this is something I’d stay far, far away from… But she really made it work. I wear my Khaki jacket so much, so it’s definitely an essential for me.

Unusual Silhouettes
I tend to stick to the same shapes, if I know what works for me, and suits my body type then I find it hard to stray from that. But recently I picked up this lovely printed kimono inspired top and it’s cut so different to my other items. Because it has more of a kimono shape to it, it hangs differently on the body. I can already tell that I’m going to be wearing this a lot.

About the outfit: I kept it pretty simple with this look, I really wanted to showcase the gorgeous print on this new piece from Zara. It's a kimono style blouse, with this gorgeous floral print, I popped on my trusty black skinnies, my topshop boots and my zara bag and we're ready to go! Me and Josh took a lovely wander around Thwaite Botanical Gardens (in Hull) and it was such a lovely day, the sun was shinning and it was surprisingly warm. The grounds were gorgeous and it was nice to have some 'us' time soaking up the fresh air.

What items are your wardrobe essentials? Do you have any pieces that aren’t the typical wardrobe essentials?

With Love; Em
