Fashion Advice I'd Give To My Younger Self

Tuesday, 9 August 2016

So here's the follow on post, to last weeks 'Beauty Advice I'd Give To My Younger Self'. I've just put together some tips and advice that I'd give my younger self.

First of all, let me apologise for the photo for this post. When I have the time, and a friend to take some blog photos for me then I'll add some super sassy outfit shots to this post. Which was the original plan, but being as I'm up in Huddersfield on my own I couldn't take any for this post. So please bare with, and lets just appreciate how cute 13 year old Emma is, also my brothers gonna hate me for putting this picture out in the world again, but I think he looks cute.

1. Put Down the Red Jeans and Checked Scarf
The Emo look didn't work for you, so lets just save ourselves the embarrassment of 14 year old Emma trying to pull of the dark eye makeup and grebby look and pop your flowery shirt and ballerina pumps back on.

2. Wear clothes that are the right size for you.
This is so important. You're body changes so much from when you're 13-18. No matter what people say, and how much pressure you feel to still squeeze into that size 6/8. Embrace your more womanly features and size up a size or two and you'll honestly feel so much more comfortable in what you're wearing.

3. Please, learn how to walk in heels.
Just so that you're not still struggling while you're 20.

4. Stop wasting money on cheap fashion, save up and invest.
I can't even count the amount of boohoo orders and bit's I picked up from New Look and Primark that I've worn once, then just thrown away. Just don't bother. Save your money and invest in higher quality pieces that aren't so trend based and will actually last you.

5. Don't waste $200 in F21 when you go to New York.
You literally don't wear any of it and you end up throwing it all away anyway, so just save yourself the hassle and don't buy it in the first place! Instead, use the money to go out for a few really nice meals while you're over there.

6. People care less about what you're wearing than you think they do.
You shouldn't be so self conscious about what people think of you, you'll be so much happier when you stop caring so much.

7. Don't wear something just because the 'popular' kids are.
Superdry hoodies are such a good example of this. Anyone my age, that went to secondary school in the UK should relate to this, they were so expensive and I've honestly never worn a hoodie since. So not me. Just because everyone is wearing it, it doesn't mean it's going to be a good look for you.

8. Put the cropped cardigans down.
God, why did I ever think this was a good look?

9. Take better care of your Brown Lace Up Boots.
You're heart broken when they eventually fall apart after 3 years.

10. Wear Less Black.
There are so many other colours! If you work this out earlier, then your wardrobe will be so much more colourful now, and you'll feel a lot more confident in brighter colours.
