Beauty Advice I'd Give To My Younger Self

Tuesday, 2 August 2016

After looking back through some of my old photos, I've compiled a list of advice that I'd give to my younger self. Maybe you'll agree with some of these and laugh that you should have done the same or maybe this advice might help you!

1. Go Steady With Foundation.
Please don't pick up the first shade of foundation that looks sort of close to the skin on your hand. Pick your shade of foundation carefully, and don't slap so much on! Less is more.

2. Stop Picking Your Spots!
You go through a real spotty phase, and by trying to help you just make it a million times worse. Don't pick them! Leave them be and they will eventually clear up, and use the right skincare products! Use gentle cleansers not all the 'spot fighting' nasty abrasive scrubs because thats just making it all worse. Be patient and they'll clear up considerably over the next 5 years.

3. ALWAYS take your makeup off before bed.
This is so important. Your skin needs to breathe while your sleeping. I don't care how tired you are, you always always always need to take your makeup off before bed.

4. Stay away from pink and blue eyeshadow.
For some reason when I was about 13 I thought that this was a good idea. Just put the eyeshadows down...

5. Find a good Liquid Eyeliner.
Don't use that cheap gel eyeliner, that doesn't have any staying power and just smudges everywhere and gives you horrific panda eyes, and just practice practice practice. You'll eventually get the hang of  doing that flick.

6. Learn how to contour properly and start doing it earlier.
Contouring is your friend. When you have the right brushes and the right product it's actually pretty simple. Watch a few tutorials and you'll get the hang of it. You'll feel much better about the size of your nose when it's contoured!

7. Moisturise.
Moisturise your face every morning and night with a light moisturiser. And take care of the rest of your body, slap on some cocoa butter every now and then.

8. Stay away from that glittery eyeshadow for school.
The fall out is awful and it's just way too over the top for every day. Also, it looks shocking in photos.

9. Take better care of your nails.
Over the years, they get so weak and brittle, because you painted them every day for years. You don't need a different colour nail varnish every day of the week!

10. Use Heat Protection.
This is by far the most important one on the list. If you insist on curling your hair every day of the week for years. Then at least protect it properly! It's so simple to do and it will save you that horrific trip to the hair dressers where they practically have to hack off 6 inches of your hair.

I hope you found this some what amusing or helpful! Let me know what Beauty Advice you'd give your younger self!

  1. Your blog is so dreamy, I just love it! :D this made me laugh a lot, I definitely relate to the abrasive cleansers, I have used so many products over the years that were actually making my skin worse haha! And I had my hair red all through school, which led to constant colouring, which led to terrible ends! Weirdly I thought using dark foundation on my lids was a good idea when 15, I don't even know why xD xx
